Abstract

In this article it is proposed that a compact magnetic rotation sensor where it is located in the large diameter traction motor to reduce the size and weight of automotive vehicles by utilizing a rotation angle sensor the uses a permanent magnet, Hall-effect sensors and a stator with a partial arc shape. The proposed rotation angle sensor achieved to remove a specific harmonic component of the leakage flux from the electric motor by converting the signal from three-phase to two-phase using three Hall-effect sensors. The design concept of the rotation angle and its magnetic design results are shown in this article. The proposed rotation angle senser is prototyped and measured the weight, size and magnetic performances. The measurement result of this rotation angle sensor archived 38 % weight reduction and 33 % volume reduction compared with conventional variable reluctance resolver. Furthermore, it was shown in the experiment result that the angle position of the motor can be detected in line with the electromagnetic design and the target of angle error.
