Abstract

Lightning injuries are uncommon injuries in our country. We encountered four cases of lightning injuries in recent 4 years. All of them are male. Two cases occurred in the city, while the other two in the suburban. Immediate cardiac arrest was noted in two cases. None of them had severe soft tissue injuries. A total of 101 cases of lightning injuries were reviewed in Medline from the year 1996 to 2001. We found that cutaneous burn was the most common clinical manifestations followed by neurological signs such as numbness and muscle weakness. The mortality rate is 22%. Most of the expired died on the spot. The prognosis is good in victims who survive following the injuries. Safety recommendations will be discussed.
