Abstract
This article shows practical mitigation procedures and improvements concerning the lightning protection system of a radio equipment installed on a transmission tower of a High Voltage (HV) line on 345kV. The digital radio operates on 5.8GHz and is fed by a low voltage power cable, 350m long, which is buried in soil and partially installed below the power conductors of the HV line. Additionally, electric and magnetic fields — generated by this HV line — and the grounding resistance of the tower and other earth grids were measured and discussed.
