Abstract
The authors report on measurements of the differential change in kinetic cross section, Delta sigma / sigma , upon excitation of Rb immersed in various atomic and molecular buffer gases. For the first time negative values for Delta sigma / sigma are found, Large positive values are found for saturated hydrocarbons as a buffer gas.
