Abstract

A first study on any bulk single-phase B2 Al-Cr-Ti-V multiprincipal element alloy (MPEA) as an electrocatalyst has been performed for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The studied bulk MPEA shows outstanding kinetic performance with exceptionally less Tafel slope values of −18.35 mV/dec and 11.71 mV/dec for HER and OER, respectively, and considerably good electrolysis stability for 24 h. For water splitting to accomplish a current density of 10 mA/cm2, this MPEA requires a lower cell voltage of about 1.73 V. MPEA shows appreciable water-splitting stability for 12 h.
