Abstract

Rayleigh-Brillouin spectra of light scattered by mixtures of helium and xenon have been measured as a function of density, concentration and wavevector. The dispersion and damping of the longitudinal sound mode shows that a complete hydrodynamic description is valid up to wavelenghts equal to the mean free path.
