Abstract

The anterior surface of a posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) was covered with cultured rat lens epithelial cells and light scattering was measured densitophotometrically. The light scattering intensity was maximum at a 30-degree scattering angle and was proportional to the number of cells per area on the IOL. Results suggest that the adhesion of lens epithelial cells on the IOL may influence its optical function.
