Abstract

Here we use the operator formalism of Part 1 to carry out numerical investigations of step discontinuities in planar dielectric waveguides . Up to now, mainly symmetrical configurations have been analysed, and so in this paper asymmetrical configurations will be investigated primarily and also compared with the corresponding symmetrical onesthe optical properties of a realistic rounded step will be compared with those of an ideal step discontinuity.
