Abstract

The modulation of electron densities in a plasma introduced by a standing electromagnetic wave is studied theoretically. The transmitivity of a probe monochromatic electromagnetic wave through the plasma gives, according to the theoretical analysis, “bands” of stable and unstable regions of frequencies, with properties which are related to Mathieu's or Hill's type equations.
