Abstract

We present an experimental study of the light-output response of CsI(Tl) detectors for low-energy ions. The measurements were made with a 10 × 10 × 10 mm 3 crystal coupled to a silicon photodiode for 1H, 4He and 12C beams. The experimental results have been compared to predictions obtained with a recently proposed analytical model of ion-induced luminescence. The deviations observed between the calculated and the measured values in this low-energy regime indicate that there might be an increase in the relative importance of certain physical processes that are normally negligible at higher energies.
