Abstract

Modal analysis of a high-index cladding optical fiber reveals that it supports the radially polarized TM0r electromagnetic mode. Full-wave simulations of the electromagnetic fields of this mode emerging from the fiber end-face into free-space predict a light focusing effect. This focusing effect occurs at a characteristic distance from the end-face and it keeps its shape as it propagates in free-space.
