Abstract

A field theory of the closed bosonic string compactified on a torus is constructed in the light-cone gauge. Left- and right-movers are treated independently. On-shell vector-boson emission vertices coincide with those of the bosonic parts of the heterotic string in the p + → 0 limit. The twist factors are understood as a phase choice of the zero-mode momentum eigenstates.
