Abstract
In the framework of perturbative QCD scaling laws are derived for the decay of a heavy orthoquarkonium state into a photon and a light pseudoscalar. From the leading term in the light cone expansion a ratio of decay widths Γ ( 3S 1 → λ + light meson)/ Γ ( 3S 1 → e +e −) is obtained which decreases with the square of the mass of the heavy meson. Prediction for the rates of radiative ψ′ and ϒ decays are given and the extension of these results to 0 ++, 1 ++ and 2 ++ states is discussed.
