Abstract

We discuss the performance of a chiral constituent-quark model with regard to the description of light- and strange-baryon spectra. The model employs a linear confinement and an effective interaction between constituent quarks derived from Goldstone-boson exchange. Precise Faddeev and variational calculations are carried out for the three-quark systems. The model provides a simultaneous explanation of the ground-state and excitation spectra of all the light and strange baryons much improved as compared to previous attempts.
