Abstract

The life cycle of Helicosporidium sp. parasitizing natural populations of oribatid mites and collembolans in forest soils, is described by means of light, Nomarski interference, and electron microscopy. The ultrastructure of some early sporogonic stages (cysts), the young (maturing) spore, and the mature spore is discussed. Some data on the host-parasite relationships and prevalence of infection are presented.
