Abstract

There is general agreement that photomorphogenesis is the synopsis of signal perception and transduction on one side and the temporal and spatial patterns of competence on the other side. To analyse photoregulation of cell specific gene expression the following topics will be discussed: 1. The cellular and intracellular localisation of the photoreceptors; 2. The photoregulation of gene expression and finally; 3. The tissue and cell specific gene expression of light-regulated genes. In the context of this article we will concentrate on the photoreceptor phytochrome and chalcone synthase as a candiate for a light-regulated gene.
