Abstract

The electromagnetic absorption and electronic activation energy of plasma polyfuran particles synthesized by plasma are studied in this work. The particles were synthesized in configurations resulting from crosslinked unions of Furan molecules. Aliphatic CH groups were identified in the particles, which suggest some fragmentation during the synthesis. Conjugated CC groups were also identified which promoted that the particles absorb electromagnetic energy in four regions with different intensities, one in the UV and three in the visible region. The wavelength intervals in these regions were: 250–380, 380–510, 510–660 and 660–850 nm; and the respective activation energy in each region was in the intervals: 5.82–8.58, 4.19–6.74, 2.14–3.86, 0.16–1.08 eV. The electromagnetic absorption was influenced by the particle diameter, increasing with the mean diameter.
