Abstract

Objectives: To analyze the capacity of bone neoformation after maxillary sinus lift with rhBMP-2 and its effects, compared to other concentrations and grafts. Materials and Methods: Followed Cochrane guidelines and the databases used for research articles were PubMed, BVS, CENTRAL Cochrane Library and Scopus. Results: 4 articles were selected. From the studies on bone density reported that the rhBMP-2 group presented inferior results to the control group, nevertheless, after installation of load this group increased considerably. With analysis of the vertical bone augmentation they found similar results between the groups. All articles reported adverse events presenting similar results in relation to rhBMP-2. Conclusion: The RhBMP-2 obtained good bone neoformation after the application of functional load and adequate vertical bone quantity for dental implant rehabilitation. In addition, higher concentrations induce bone formation more quickly, but with more adverse effects. Descriptors: Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2; Maxillary Sinus; Sinus Augmentation.
