Abstract

Praseodymium, neodymium, erbium and thulium ions were doped in acetophosphate glass and their absorption spectra were studied in the ultraviolet (UV), visible (VIS) and near infrared (NIR) regions. The radiative lifetimes and branching ratios for the fluorescent levels were estimated. The splitting in the 1 G 4 level of the Tm 3+ ion in SASP glass is explained as due to the superposition of the vibrational mode of the PO 3− 4 radical on the corresponding electronic levels of the Tm 3+ ion.
