Abstract

Levels of 34Cl were populated with the 34S(τ, p) 34Cl reaction at E τ = 9 MeV. Gamma rays were detected in coincidence with protons. From Doppler-shift attenuation measurements, mean lifetimes (or limits) have been obtained for 18 levels below E x = 4.5 MeV. Multipole strengths have been calculated for a number of transitions and compared, where possible, with many-particle shell-model calculations. The present work determines J π = 1 − and (2, 3) − for the 4.35 and 4.46 MeV levels, respectively.
