Abstract
The yrast states in 60Ni have been studied by means of the 51V( 12C, 2np) 60Ni reaction at E ≈ 36MeV. Values of the lifetimes of these states were extracted using the recoil distance method and by a line-shape analysis of the Doppler broadened lines. A determination of the parities was made with a three-crystal Ge(Li) Compton polarimeter. In particular, the J = 6 state at 4.262 MeV was found to have positive parity, in disagreement with a previous assignment. This study is made in the frame of a systematic study of the even Ni isotopes, in order to compare the data with the recent dynamic deformation theory of Kumar.
