Abstract
The lifetime of the 12.195 MeV level of /sup 28/Si was measured by the axial blocking of ..cap alpha.. particles from the /sup 27/Al(p,..cap alpha../sub 0/) resonance at E/sub p/ = 632.2 keV. The result is tau = 120 +- 20 as. The corresponding level width GAMMA = 5.3/sup +0.9//sub -0.8/ eV is in agreement with other blocking measurements but lower than that deduced from resonance reaction yields.
