Abstract

Lifetimes of the metastable three electron 1s2s2p 4P 5 2 state have been studied with a time-of-flight beam-foil technique. The lifetimes were measured to be 53.5 ± 13, 20.0 ± 3 and 10.4 ± 1.5 nsec for nitrogen, oxygen and neon respectively. Lifetimes and energies of this state are in excellent agreement with theoretical values.
