Abstract
The lifetimes of the first excited states in Os 186 and Os 188 have been measured by centroid shift technique. An electron-electron coincidence spectrometer was used for energy resolution. The halflives measured are: T 1 2 ( Os 186, 137 keV level) = (8.7±0.04) × 10 −10 sec , T 1 2 ( Os 188, 155 keV level) = (7.3±0.6) × 10 −10 sec . The transition probabilities were calculated and compared with those estimated from the single particle model, and enhancement factors of 78±4 and 62±5 for the 137 and 155 keV transitions were obtained. The data on Os 188 are compared with the theory of Davydov and Filippov.
