Abstract

Gamma rays from the 59 Co(α, pγ) 62 Ni reaction were observed in coincidence with protons at E α =8 MeV. Lifetimes of excited states in 62 Ni were determined by the Doppler-shift attenuation method. The B (E2) values obtained for the 2 1 + and 2 2 + states are in good agreement with the shell-model calculations with e eff =1.7, while B (E2, 4 1 + →2 1 + ) is much larger and B (E2, 4 2 + →2 1 + ) much smaller than the shell model values. Decay scheme of the states in 62 Ni up to 4.16 MeV are also discussed.
