Abstract

Rosemary Lowe-McConnell authored or co-authored at least 65 scientific papers, books, chapters in books and popular articles, and edited or co-edited three books between 1951 and 1993. She was the sole or first author of 88% of her publications and shared authorship in 13 publications with 31 collaborators, but never more than once with a particular author. Surprisingly, Ro co-authored only one publication with her lifelong collaborator Ethelwynn Trewavas, and that was a thirteen-author note to Nature on the destruction of fisheries in African lakes. She published in five different decades, with her most productive decade being the 1970s with 17 publications. Her publication list is notable for the number of books that she authored or co-authored (7) or to which she contributed chapters (7); three of these books were part of International Biological Programme (IBP) initiatives. She published primarily on freshwater fishes (47 publications) but also on marine fishes (6), on fishes in general (4) and on aquatic ecology (7); one paper dealt with birds. Over half of her publications were concerned with aquatic ecology (55%), the rest dealing with taxonomy and speciation (15%), fisheries (14%), conservation (8%) and other subjects. Ro published variously under the names R.H. Lowe, R.H. Lowe (McConnell), R.H. McConnell (Lowe), R.H. McConnell and R.H. Lowe-McConnell. Her publications are arranged chronologically by year but not within years. All publications in this list were verified against an original copy.
