Abstract
The effects of the frequency fluctuations of pulsed dye lasers on the determination of atomic lifetimes by the decay of fluorescence are estimated. A small shift in the estimated lifetime will occur due to the inability to completely correct for pile-up errors. However, the statistics of the number of counts in each channel of the pulse height analyser are not affected to a first approximation.
