Abstract

Background: Pancreatic cancer is an oncological disease with aggressive course and extremely poor long-term prognosis. According to WHO data on the incidence of pancreatic cancer per 100,000 people in 2018, Latvia ranks third in the world, behind Japan and Hungary, making this a significant issue in our country. Some centers of excellence in pancreatic surgery in Europe and the US have comparatively good long-term survival outcomes for patients following radical pancreatic surgery, reflecting the benefit of patient flow centralisation in specialized centers.
