Abstract

This current entry presents the main life‐course findings and theories relevant to female offending across the life course. The entry discusses whether Moffitt's developmental taxonomy can be applied to females and to what degree, as well as discussing the utility of Silverthorn and Frick's delayed‐onset pathway. The potential utility of other prominent life‐course theories such as the integrated cognitive antisocial personality (ICAP) theory and age‐graded theory of informal social control are also discussed. Finally, recent findings from the Pittsburgh Girls Study are reviewed and implications for further theory development is discussed.
