Abstract

Process automation has been implemented in many bulk pharmaceutical facilities during the last fifteen years. This paper describes actual cost and benefits of automating these facilities during the life cycle of design, start-up, and operation. These bulk facilities have been automated with varying levels of process control and information management. The tangible benefits and keys to success of several operational automated batch bulk pharmaceutical facilities will be examined.
