Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present the environmental impact assessment method related to fisheries resources improvement projects using artificial reefs. For this purpose, two representative artificial reefs were selected and life cycle assessment was performed about their production process. Life cycle assessment has progressed to characterization, and selected environmental impact categories are global warming, resource consumption, human toxicity(carcinogen), human toxicity(chronic disease), ecotoxicity(aquatic) and ecotoxicity(terrestrial). As a result, it was found that Octagon hemispherical type large-scale artificial reef had a greater impact on all environmental impact categories than Dice artificial reef. The main cause of these results was the use of steel materials in the case of Dice artificial reef. In the case of an Octagon hemispherical type large-scale artificial reef made of steel materials, the main cause of the effect was the use of steel materials as well as welding rodes. Based on these results, it seems that it is necessary to consider alternatives of major materials for making artificial reefs.
