Abstract
Setting out coaching psychology areas such as Personal (Life) Coaching and Developmental Coaching, this chapter will also make links in dealing with Transitions. Life and personal coaching has gained popularity in recent years, with many coaching psychologists now working within this field. This domain of coaching tends to work with people outside of the workplace, focusing on challenges and opportunities in their personal life. Coaching topics might include finding a sense of purpose and meaning, improving areas of life satisfaction, or dealing with change. This chapter will explore what is meant by life and personal coaching, as well as focus on developmental coaching, which refers to supporting individuals through key life transitions. Key aims are as follows: to understand the scope of personal or life coaching; and to explore developmental coaching and supporting individuals through life transitions. Relevant concepts, theory, and research will be covered initially. This will be followed by more practical considerations and a case study.
