Abstract

Lidar (laser radar) techniques are reviewed for remote sensing of the environme tal parameters of the troposphere (altitudes below 11 km). The principles and the basic performance of lidar schemes are classified and compared. The state-of-the-art of the lidar systems and applications are discussed for Mie lidars, differential absorption lidars (DIAL), and Raman lidars. Future possibilities and requirements of research and development of the lidar techniques are discussed.
