Abstract
Broad, low frequency Raman bands (below 100 cm −1 were observed in several solid polymers (polymethylmethacrylate) (PMMA), polystyrene, poly n-butyl methacrylate and poly 4-methyl pentene-1) and attributed to the librational motions of the side groups. A structural model for the librating side group is proposed which exhibits the observed frequency dependence on mass.
