Abstract

Beginning with a look at library education before the revolution in Nicaragua, this study emphasizes current interests and concerns. Examination of the formation and development of the library school highlights the need for more trained librarians. The revolution began on July 19, 1979, with the overthrow of the Somoza dynasty by the Sandinista National Liberation Front. The new regime began a complete social, political, and economic restructuring of Nicaragua. Libraries and library education were given new emphasis in the process. Some of the developments that have taken place in library education since the establishment of the revolutionary era are discussed.
