Abstract
In Liberation by Oppression, Thomas Szasz presents a critical review of the history and present state of psychiatry. He does so by means of a systematic comparison of the oppression of the slave by the master, and of mental patient by psychiatrist - one defining domination as liberation from the shackles of ignorance, the other as liberation from the shackles of mental illness.
