Abstract

A critical analysis is offered of two ad hominem arguments advanced by Rep. Barney Frank during the House debate on the Defense of Marriage Act. The analysis suggests that applying ad hominem argument concepts to political talk affords the possibility of recovering a place for character (ethos) in such discourse.
