Abstract

The electrical properties of new perovskite-type materials based on the Li-Sr-Ti(Nb,Ta)-O system have been investigated. Among these compounds, exhibited the highest bulk ionic conductivity of at 30°C with activation energy of 0.27 eV. Substitution of Fe for Ti in decreased the ionic conductivity. We demonstrated the operation of a monolithic (single element) electrochromic display using perovskite-type Ta). exhibited the coloration at the positive electrode side under the application of a voltage of 1.5 V and was bleached under short circuit conditions at 350°C. The ionic or mixed conducting material became oxidized at the anode (negative) and reduced at the cathode (positive), which resulted in local chemical gradients of the composition and a corresponding change in coloration. © 2003 The Electrochemical Society.
