Abstract

The Li-bearing ferronigerite-2 N 1 S occurs in the Xianghualing tin-polymetallic ore field, Linwu County, Hunan Province, Peoples Republic of China. It was found near the outer contact zone of the Laizhiling granite body and in the Middle-Upper Devonian carbonate rocks of the Qiziqiao Formation. Lithium-bearing ferronigerite-2 N 1 S contains 0.83 wt.% Li 2 O. Its empirical formula is Al 10.95 Sn 1.62 Fe 1.30 Zn 0.79 Mg 0.66 Li 0.57 Mn 0.18 Ca 0.05 Ti 0.03 Si 0.01 O 22 (OH) 2 . The structure for Li-bearing ferronigerite-2 N 1 S was refined in space group P 3 m 1, with a 5.7197(8), c 13.829(3) A, V 391.81(11) A 3 , to R 1 = 0.0361. The refined formula of Li-bearing ferronigerite-2 N 1 S is Al 12.06 Sn 1.67 Fe 1.19 Li 0.83 Zn 0.25 O 24 H 2 . Both chemical analysis and structural refinement confirm the essential Li content in nigerite group minerals. Instead of T 4 M 12 O 22 (OH) 2 , the simplified general formula for 2 N 1 S polysomes in the nigerite and hogbomite groups can be given as A x B 16− x O 22 (OH) 2 , where x = ~3; A = Mg 2+ , Fe 2+ , Zn 2+ ; B = Al 3+ , Sn 4+ , Ti 4+ , Li + , □.
