Abstract

The paper presents the conceptions of development the perspective lignite areas. Legnica–Glogow Copper Region is a region of underground copper extraction. Above the copper deposits, there are still undocumented deposits of lignite. At present, KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. is applying for prospecting and exploration concession of these deposits. Mining company, whose core activity is mining and processing of copper ore, intends to use lignite resources for power and heat energy production for its own needs. Underground copper mining will be continued on the same area, but also it is planned develop the lignite deposit using underground coal gasification technique. Underground coal gasification technique method allows for safe, simultaneous extraction of both resources.
