Abstract

Drawing its theoretical underpinnings from Systemic Functional Linguistics, this study analyzes theme patterns in Tony Onamade Jejuri’s Bed at a Crossroad. Using sampling method, three extracts have been selected from the novel. The focus on textual meaning aims at unveiling the hidden linguistic resources or codes incorporated in this novel. It also aims at bringing out how Tony Onamade Jejuri organized and established themes to construct clauses in order to convey his message. Using mixed research method (quantitative and qualitative research methods), the findings reveal different linguistic features pertaining to the characteristics of the discourse. It is then realized the overtopicalizing of the three selected extracts.
