Abstract

The purpose of this work is related to the statement of F.M. Dostoevsky that the salvation of the world is possible only through love for the human soul and, as a consequence of this love, through inner beauty. Based on this, the purpose of the article is to analyze the various meanings of the word beauty in lexicographic sources and in the novel “Idiot” by F.M. Dostoevsky. Vocabulary and textual representations of the lexeme красота ( beauty) are correlated. The author concludes that the polysemantic word beauty is not used in the text of the novel at the nomination of objects, at the description of nature, as well as at the expression of admiration. The analysis of the lexeme красота (beauty) outlined the moral nature of the word, thereby confirming the issues outlined above.
