Abstract
In Reply.— The letter by White and Litovitz raises the important issue of the reliability of basing medical decisions on case reports. When our patients were examined, we found nine case reports in the literature describing the toxicity of acute thyroid hormone ingestions. The message of the majority of the case reports is that thyroid hormones are toxic and that therapy is indicated. White and Litovitz cite two additional reports (one is an abstract) which predate our article.
