Abstract

Differential cross sections have been measured for the 31P(p, α 0) 28Si reaction between E p = 1 and 5.5 MeV. A total of 78 resonances was observed. Analysis of the angular distributions, measured at 36 of the lower energy resonances, has allowed unique spin and parity assignments to be given in 18 cases. Limits have been evaluated for the reduced proton and alpha particle widths for the above 36 resonances. The observed level densities are shown to be in good agreement with those predicted from theory.
