Abstract

The interplay of collective and non-collective modes in 140Ce is studied via comparison of available data with results of the quasiparticle-phonon model (QPM). Lifetime values have been checked in 140La decay using delayed beta gamma coincidences. The half-life of the Jpi =41+ level is confirmed as T12/(2083.6 keV)=3.3+or-0.2 ns and upper limits of 0.1-0.2 ns are estimated for other levels. Extensive calculations within the QPM are carried out including one-, two- and three-phonon components in the wavefunctions. Comparisons to other N=82 nuclei are made as well.
