Level of Satisfaction of Fathers and Mothers with Joint or Sole Custody Arrangements: Results of a Questionnaire

Abstract

Results of a questionnaire returned by 112 divorced mothers and fathers in joint or sole custody arrangements suggested that the fathers were generally more satisfied with joint custody and the mothers with sole custody. Three-quarters of the children in both sole and joint custody Uvea primarily with their mothers. Parents with the highest incomes, status occupations and education were more likely to have joint custody while Catholics, regardless of other factors, were more likely to have sole custody. Joint custody families were no more likely to return to Court on child-related issues than sole custody families.
