Abstract
Introduction - The indication for carotid revascularization has largely been based on symptomatology in combination with the degree of stenosis in the ipsilateral carotid artery. More recently, the role of timing in the prevention of recurrent stroke in symptomatic patients has gained interest. Current guidelines recommend that “Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) should be performed within two weeks (European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS)), or even within 48 hours of symptom onset (National Stroke Strategy, United Kingdom)[1,2].
