Abstract

SummaryG. Fabres. — Rearing of Aphytis cochereaui (Hym. Aphelinidae) and precision on its biological characteristics.A. cochereaui De Bach & Rosen (1976) is a new-caledonian endemic species that develops upon the purple scale (Lepidosaphes beckii Newmann) as a primary parasite.Biological data on the different phases of the development are covered in detail: average longevity of females is 8 days; suitable hosts for oviposition are ovipositing coccid females; adult parasites females feed on coccid males; average total oviposition is 5 eggs per Aphytis female; life cycle is 35 days; sex-ratio under laboratory conditions and in the field averages 49-50% females; reproduction is arrhenotokous. The conditions of biological control produced by A. cochereaui and A. lepidosaphes are compared. Two phases of the parasite's biology (fecondity and life cycle duration) are tentatively suggested as vittatus group's biological caracteristics.
