Abstract

Abstract: Leucocytoclastic vasculitis and skin necrosis following subcutaneous heparin calcium. J. H. Kearsley, R. W. Jeremy and A. S. Coates, Aust. N.Z. J. Med., 1982, 12, pp. 288–289. Low dose heparin calcium is of proven value in the prevention of post-operative deep venous thrombosis, and has been shown to reduce the incidence of fatal pulmonary embolism/ Adverse local reactions, most commonly haemorrhage, are seldom troublesome, but we report here a patient in whom extensive skin necrosis occurred at the sites of subcutaneous heparin calcium injection.
