Abstract

Dr. Waisman commented as follows: We are pleased to have the comments of Dr. Dent. The case, R. S., reported in our paper (Pediatrics, 33:413, 1964) had dislocated lenses in addition to the zonular cataracts. The second case, K.T., was included in the paper because the child excreted homocystine on repeated analysis although he did not altogether fit the clinical description, notably the absence of subluxated lenses. On several subsequent hospitalizations (since the manuscript appeared) the homocystine excretion decreased from 15 µg/ day to 0. At the present time, the intermittent appearance of homocystine cannot be explained and we prefer not to consider him a case of homocystinuria.
